R&R are proud to offer The Submarine Mermaid Postal service
The first and only service of its kind, the Submarine Mermaid Postal Service(TM) has been set up to support young children during submarine deployments at sea where a parent/carer or relative is on deployment and unable to contact the shore.
Fun Facts:
Did you know that our Mermaids send messages directly from dived submarines to the shore where they are passed on to our colleagues in the Royal Mail?!
Perhaps your postie turns Merperson when in water!!! Some are secret Merpeople - others are just Mermaid connected
Do you know how the Mermaids communicate with the Submarine? By morse code!
They tap morse code onto the submarine and submariners tap back. You may get a general message from one of the Mermaids or you may get something specific from your loved one or someone else on the submarine that knows your mum/dad or relative!
We don't just send Mermaid postal messages to children - we send messages from the deep of support and care for everyone connected to a deployed submarine who would like to connect with our team. We really understand the challenges - we are submarine connected ourselves. We also respect and understand that everyones experience is different and are here to listen and provide support - your way.
How it works:
We send messages for fun via post, to celebrate milestones, birthdays, special occasions or just to say hi. We also send post during challenging times including illness in the family, difficult periods in education or work, bereavement or adverse childhood events.
Our team includes senior specialist HCPC and UKCP qualified therapists with experiencing of working with families and lived experience of submarine or forces life.
Alongside Mermaid post the team on this pilot project also aim to create content to provide support to the submariner community and offer peer support and specialist signposting during deployment(s) in 2024 period. This is with the intention of identifying any future unmet service and research needs.
Made with love and in celebration of our little heroes and our whole community.

We are very grateful to our funders Greenwich Hospital for funding our pilot project and thank them for enabling us to bring a 10 year ambition of Mermaid post and In Silent Service to our community.
